The Yonex EZONE 98 (8th Generation), released in early 2025, is a refined update to one of the most popular player frames in tennis. While it maintains the "Easy One" reputation for speed and power, the 8th Gen focuses heavily on improving feel, comfort, and stability through a slightly softer flex and updated frame geometry.

It is often described as having a "plush" feel reminiscent of the legendary EZONE DR 98.

New 8th Generation Technologies

The 2025 version introduces several key structural and material changes:

1. Minolon: This is the standout addition for the 8th Gen. It is a material made from ultra-thin, flexible silk fibers integrated into the shaft. It significantly dampens harsh vibrations, resulting in a much smoother "buttery" feel at impact.
2. Updated Frame Geometry: Yonex thickened the beam in the upper hoop (the "tip" of the racquet). This increases stability and expands the sweet spot further toward the top of the frame where modern players often make contact.
3. Inner Frame Groove: A new groove on the inner portion of the frame allows the racquet to bend more optimally upon impact, aiding in energy return and comfort.
4. 2G-Namd™ SPEED: Carried over from the previous gen, this high-modulus graphite maintains a fast "snapback" for explosive ball speed.
5. Isometric™ Head Shape: The signature square head remains, offering a sweet spot that is significantly larger and more forgiving than competitor 98 sq. in. frames.

On-Court Performance

1. Feel & Comfort: This is the primary upgrade. With a lower stiffness rating (63 RA) and the addition of Minolon, the racquet feels less "stiff" and more connected than the 7th Gen.
2. Power & Control: It remains a powerhouse in the 98 sq. in. category. It offers more free power than a Wilson Blade or Head Radical, but the 8th Gen's stability makes that power easier to control.
3. Maneuverability: It is remarkably fast through the air, making it excellent for flicking passing shots or generating high head speed for heavy topspin.
