The Yonex Aerobite (BG-AB) is Yonex’s original, groundbreaking hybrid string setup. It was a massive first-of-its-kind innovation in badminton, designed specifically for control-oriented players who want to generate intense, sharp spin at the net while maintaining lightning-quick repulsion.

By separating the vertical strings (mains) and horizontal strings (crosses) into completely different gauges and materials, Aerobite delivers performance properties that no single string can match. It is immensely popular on the pro tour and has been used by superstars like Kento Momota, Viktor Axelsen, and Carolina Marín.

Core Construction & Hybrid Technology

Aerobite is engineered around the physics of how a shuttle behaves on different parts of the string bed:

  1. The Mains (Vertical) — 0.67 mm Polyurethane Coated Nylon: The vertical strings are medium-thin but heavily textured. They feature a specialized Polyurethane (PU) coating that gives them a distinctly sticky, high-friction texture. This allows the string bed to "bite" and grip the plastic or feather skirt of the shuttlecock, generating massive rotational spin on cut smashes and slices.
  2. The Crosses (Horizontal) — 0.61 mm Ultra-Thin Nylon: The horizontal strings are razor-thin (sharing the same lineage as Yonex Aerosonic). This minuscule thickness dramatically reduces wind resistance and provides an instantaneous, explosive "snapback" effect, giving the racket its lively speed.

Playing Characteristics

  1. Piercing Spin & Net Touch (10/10): The sticky PU coating on the 0.67mm mains makes this string the ultimate weapon for trick shots and net play. Hairpin net drops tumble tighter over the tape, and sliced cross-court drops grip beautifully, causing the shuttle to dip sharply out of your opponent's reach.
  2. Effortless Repulsion (9/10): Because the cross strings are an ultra-thin 0.61mm, you do not need an aggressively heavy swing to generate depth. Clear-to-clear rallies feel effortless, and fast midcourt drives snap off the string bed with an incredibly quick, lively response.
  3. The Hitting Sound (9/10): When hit cleanly on the sweet spot, Aerobite produces a sharp, loud, metallic "crack" that sounds highly satisfying.
  4. Durability (5/10): This is the main compromise. While the 0.67mm mains are tougher than pure ultra-thin setups, the razor-thin 0.61mm crosses make the overall package somewhat fragile. If you consistently mis-hit the shuttle high up on the frame, or if you are a raw, heavy power hitter, this string setup will fray and snap faster than utility strings like BG65.

Who is it for?

  1. Control & Deceptive Players: If your game relies on tight net play, spin, deception, and setting up points with precise placement rather than pure brute force.
  2. Advanced & Competitive Club Players: It shines brilliantly at tournament tensions (24–28 lbs) where the string bed can provide high tactile feedback.

Aerobite vs. Aerobite Boost: The Quick Difference

  1. Standard Aerobite (Mains 0.67mm / Crosses 0.61mm): Offers a slightly softer, more responsive medium feel with faster, effortless repulsion.
  2. Aerobite Boost (Mains 0.72mm / Crosses 0.61mm): Uses a much thicker, Vectran-stiffened main string. It feels significantly harder, offers slightly more control on heavy smashes, and lasts longer, but requires more physical power to get the same depth.
