The Wilson Blade 98 (16x19) V10 represents a significant step forward in Wilson's iconic control lineup. Historically known for being soft, highly flexible, and heavily control-oriented, the 10th generation (V10) injects a dose of modern power and high-speed stability without losing the "connected-to-the-ball" soul that Blade players love.

The most dramatic physical shift in the V10 is its move from a traditional straight beam to a tapered geometry, giving the racket a crisper, more aggressive response.

Performance Profile

The Blade 98 V10 is re-engineered to be a more stable, offensive weapon than its predecessors, shifting the needle slightly toward modern, high-speed tennis.

  1. Turbo Taper Beam & Extra Power: By widening the beam to 21.5 mm at the hoop and tapering it down to 20.5 mm at the throat, Wilson boosts energy return. The hoop is physically stiffer, letting the racket plow through the ball more aggressively and offering a slightly higher, deeper ball launch.
  2. Torsional Stability (StableFeel+): On high-pace exchanges, previous Blades could occasionally twist on off-center hits. The updated StableFeel+ carbon layup reduces twisting at impact. This allows you to comfortably redirect heavy pace when defending or returning big serves.
  3. Spin & Launch Angle: The open 16x19 string pattern keeps the string bed highly active. It provides superb snapback to easily generate heavy topspin, giving players high clearance over the net with a sharp, dipping trajectory. Slices cut low and sharp.
  4. Crisp, Connected Feel: Fans of the Blade’s plush, raw feedback will find the V10 slightly firmer and more direct. Thanks to FORTYFIVE° (or Braid 45) and X-Loop technology, it retains that satisfying sense of knowing exactly where the ball is on the strings, with a slightly faster launch off the bed.

Best Suited For

The Blade 98 V10 is a "player's frame" that requires clean technique to fully unlock its potential.

  1. Intermediate to Advanced Players (NTRP 4.0+ / UTR 7+): Ideal for players who swing fast, make consistent contact, and can generate their own power from the baseline.
  2. Aggressive Baseliners & All-Court Players: Players who like to construct points with heavy spin, push opponents back, and comfortably transition to the net. The added frame stability makes it a major weapon on punchy volleys and block returns.
  3. Players seeking "Controlled Aggression": If you want a traditional thin-beam racket that still offers enough stability to withstand hard-hitting modern baseliners, the V10 is custom-built for you.

Note on Forgiveness: Because of the slightly stiffer hoop and taper, off-center hits on the V10 feel more direct and rigid than on the ultra-plush V9. If you need a more forgiving frame over long 3-set matches, look toward the Blade 100 V10.
